AHPP seeking the public’s opinion on historic preservation

LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT) – The Arkansas Historic Preservation
Program is seeking the public's opinion on future historic preservation issues
through an online survey.

"The
Arkansas Historic Preservation Program staff is preparing to update the
five-year statewide comprehensive preservation plan and we want to hear from
the people of Arkansas," Frances McSwain, AHPP Director, said. "It is vitally
important that our constituents' opinions be fully and accurately reflected in
the goals and objectives that will guide program decisions."

It’s nearly time for kids to head back to school.

To help moms and dads pay for school supplies and clothes, the state of Arkansas will hold its annual sales tax holiday.

The weekend will begin at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, August 4, and end Sunday, August 5, at 11:59 p.m.

For 48 hours, state and local sales taxes will not be collected on clothing, footwear, school supplies and school instructional materials.

Storms leave some damage in Arkansas, Oklahoma

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT/AP) – Severe thunderstorms brought much-needed rainfall but unwelcome wind damage in parts of Arkansas and Oklahoma.

In Arkansas, a tree was blown onto a house in Paragould and an unoccupied house was damaged near Center Ridge. Tree and power line damage also was reported in Craighead County.

According to Monty Williams with Craighead Electric Cooperative , the outages are located in Poinsett, Greene, and Craighead Counties with the majority in Monette areas.

These days it seems every business, big or small, has a website.  It is a fast and easy way to promote your product or service to customers.

But creating a website for a small business can be a scary endeavor, especially if you don’t consider yourself to be very computer literate.

That’s where the Arkansas State University Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) can help.

On Tuesday, July 31, the SBTDC and Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce will co-host a “Fundamentals of Website Planning for Small Businesses” workshop.
