WEINER, AR (KAIT)-The Weiner Gun and Knife Show fundraiser was held at the Arkansas Rice Festival Building, Saturday. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Weiner Fire Department and the Make A Wish foundation.
Firearms, ammunition and handmade knives were some of the items being sold at the fundraiser. Tyler Sitzer, the promoter of the fundraiser, said he thought twice about having this event because of the ongoing debate on firearms.
"It went through my head,"Sitzer said. "That maybe it wasn't the right thing to do but in this part of the country especially, people realize what's right and what's wrong and it's the bad people doing the bad things."
Tyler Sitzer said he thought now was as good a time as any to have this fundraiser.
"With the state of firearm industry,"Sitzer said. "And the way it is right now, I thought it would be a good time to do it and it turned out great."
Some vendors required buyers to undergo a background check, although most vendors sold from individual to individual.
Trevor Russell, a 10-year-old, was the youngest vendors at today's event and sold something completely different.
"We came to this gun show to sell my bracelets," Russell said.
Russell said he has been making his one-of-a kind bracelets for a year. Selling these bracelets has allowed Rusell to buy a brand new saxophone over the summer.
The fundraiser will continue Sunday, February 10, from 9 a.m. to 4p.m.
